"I genuinely think..." - Journalist now drops major Leicester exit verdict

Leicester midfielder James Maddison is open to leaving before the window closes, according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.

The England international has entered the final two years of his £110,00 per-week contract, which has thrown his Foxes future into doubt, although Jacobs reckons the Midlands outfit desperately want to keep him with other players set to depart.

Having enjoyed his most productive season to date in 2021-2022, where he registered 18 goals and 12 assists, Maddison has been attracting plenty of interest since the transfer window opened.

According to reports, Tottenham were keen on his services, while Newcastle have seen two offers rejected for the creative midfielder.

Ahead of the new campaign, the Magpies bid £40m, which was knocked back, before launching a second offer soon after, which was also turned down.

Brendan Rodgers was recently quizzed on Maddison’s future and said: “You see how happy he is and he’s not a player we want to sell. It’s not for me to put valuations on the players, it’s not my side, but that might just cover three-quarters of his left leg, that price. He’s a top player.”

Jacobs believes that Maddison would consider a Foxes exit before the window closes, although with doubts over the futures of Wesley Fofana and Youri Tielemans, he reckons Leicester are planning for him to stay.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I genuinely think that Maddison is open to leaving Leicester, but I think that Leicester are far more fixed on making him stay at the moment, especially because they’re lacking players and haven’t had a good window so far.”
