"This week we will see…" – Journalist now drops big Everton transfer claim

Everton are expected to “make progress” in their attempts to sign a forward this week, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Frank Lampard’s side have brought in just one attacker this window and have made a dreadful start to the new Premier League season, needing a late goal against Nottingham Forest to put their first point on the board on Saturday.

Having suffered defeats to Chelsea and Aston Villa in their opening two top-flight games, Forest’s first visit to Goodison Park for 23 years appeared to represent the perfect chance for the Toffees to get their first win of the season.

But it was a familiar story for Everton, who were dominated for large periods and unsurprisingly fell behind when Jordan Pickford parried Ryan Yates’ shot into the path of Brennan Johnson, who tucked home his first Premier League goal.

Fortunately for Lampard, his side responded quickly and rescued a point late on when Demarai Gray equalised with just two minutes remaining.

Anthony Gordon squandered a chance to win it moments later, though, as Everton’s need for a striker came to the fore once again, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin still out injured and Richarlison yet to be replaced.

Lampard has been desperately trying to bring in a forward but has so far had little luck, although Jones expects that to change in the days ahead.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “Everton have been sounding out players across England and on the continent and this week we will see them make progress in terms of bringing in a forward.”

It’s well known that the Merseysiders are keen on Che Adams, although his display at Leicester last weekend is only likely to reduce Everton’s chances of signing him.
