"I felt sick": Café hit by break-in after just 10 WEEKS in business

The owner of a new café 'felt sick' after discovering her business had been broken into after just 10 weeks. Dawn Adams opened the Coffee Lounge Café, in Dukinfield, back in April as she wanted to try something new while in remission from cancer.

So far, the King Street café has been winning rave reviews and building a loyal customer base. But on her way to work this morning (June 25), Dawn was rocked after receiving a phone call from a customer, telling her the business had been targeted by a callous burglar.

When she arrived at the premises, Dawn saw glass from the front door shattered across the ground after the offender had forced their way in, while her takings from Friday had been stolen from the till. "We are new and we weren't expecting to be robbed," said Dawn, 57.

"Yesterday we were quite busy, I was on my own, so I just left the takings and decided to sort them out in the morning. The shop is only 10 weeks old, we're not taking a wage yet because we are still building the business up.

"Now I've got to get the shutters repaired, get the door repaired, and I've got to replace the money that they have taken." Dawn says her shutters had been unable to close fully since workmen had recently placed a barrier underneath, causing damage which left a 'small gap' at the bottom.

Having called the police this morning, officers arrived to gather evidence, but Dawn did not want to open up the café once they had left. However, she was encouraged to do so by members of her team, and she was overwhelmed by the kindness shown to her by members of the community who dropped in.
