‘I doubt we will see...’ - Insider reacts to ‘telling’ Conte move and drops big Spurs exit claim

Tottenham Hotspur pundit John Wenham has claimed that midfielder Harry Winks may have played his last game for Spurs after failing to make an appearance against West Ham.

The 26-year-old has struggled for minutes recently under manager Antonio Conte. In the Lilywhites’ last four top-flight games, Winks has featured for just two minutes, having come off the bench against Manchester United.

Under the Italian, the midfielder has received more game time in England’s domestic cup competitions. However, after Spurs were knocked out of both the League Cup and the FA Cup, these minutes were also limited.

Following the recent trend in starting XI’s, Wenham, described as a Spurs ‘insider’ by Football Insider believes Winks’ features in a Tottenham shirt are now nearly over.

Speaking with FI, he claimed: “Bentancur was very, very good again against West Ham.

“Hojbjerg was very good as well, he just tidied up like he’s used to doing.

“You don’t really notice him when he’s doing that, which is why he gets unfairly criticised when he doesn’t create.

“Getting into the last knockings of the game I thought Conte might look to the bench.

“It was noticeable that in a game we were trying to see out, he didn’t bring on Harry Winks.

“He was left as an unused sub, I thought that was quite telling and it tells you what Conte thinks of him.

“Skipp is due to be back after the international break so all of a sudden Conte has three quality midfielders to choose from in Skipp, Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

“If they all stay fit until the end of the season I doubt we will see Winks again, that’s just the feeling I get.”
