“I don’t think he’s a priority” – Reading FC fan pundit gives his verdict on future of loan player at the club

Tom Dele-Bashiru joined Reading on loan at the start of the season from Watford. 

This season the midfielder has done well and made 32 appearances for Reading and scored four goals in that time too.

With Reading still part of the relegation battle in the Championship, they will be wishing on the end of the season with the hope of staying up and pushing on to do better next season.

With that in mind, we asked FLW’s Reading fan pundit Johnny Hunt if he would like to see Dele-Bashiru join Reading on loan again next season.

He said: “Tom Dele-Bashiru, he’s done okay in a struggling team. It’s hard for loan players when they come in to a side like ours trying to scratch around and get the best 11 out.

“He’s had some good performances, others not so good but I don’t think he’s a priority for coming back next season at the minute but it depends, I think we’ve only got nine first team players contracted for next season so the loan market may be called into but we really need to start looking at how we can build a squad of non loan players if we can that would be perfect.”

The Verdict:

Although Dele-Bashiru has done well at Reading this year considering the club’s overall poor performance, you can see why it wouldn’t be a priority for Reading fans to get this deal done as it stands.

With a lack of first team players under contract for next season, Johnny is right in the fact that his team should be looking at longer term signings that can be part of building something more permanent at Reading.
