'I cannot believe it happened' - The day Jose Mourinho made four Manchester United dreams come true

Manchester United were in need of a lift as a disappointing season approached its end. It was May 2017, a week before United were to face Ajax in the final of the Europa League, in a match that would define their entire campaign.

United were guaranteed a sixth-place finish and, with it, another season in the second-tier European competition, unless they were to win in Stockholm and secure qualification for the Champions League.

In order to try and keep as many senior players as fit as possible, Jose Mourinho decided to shake things up for the final day with a heavily changed side, which would give youngsters an opportunity to impress.

With nothing really at stake, the Portuguese used the occasion to hand four full debuts to some of the most exciting youngsters at the club.

Joel Pereira, labelled the best Portuguese goalkeeper of his generation by Mourinho, started in goal, and Demetri Mitchell played his first match at left-back. In midfield, Scott McTominay got his first outing for the club as part of a trio including Axel Tuanzebe and Paul Pogba, and up front, Josh Harrop played alongside Wayne Rooney on his final Old Trafford outing for the club.
