I am Liverpool Cup-winning starlet and my dad is former manager of SPFL side

Former Kilmarnock boss Lee Clark has spoken of his pride at son Bobby’s Liverpool heroics after the attacker helped Jurgen Klopp’s men lift the Carabao Cup with an extra-time win over Chelsea at Wembley.

Ex Newcastle United star Clark took charge at Rugby Park in February 2016 with the Ayrshiremen in the relegation zone but he managed to maintain their top-flight status by the skin of their teeth with a play-off victory over Falkirk. He left the club the following season – exactly one year after he’d taken over in the Killie hotseat.

Clark’s son is one of the rising Reds stars who are being hailed for their part in lifting the first trophy of the season in England and have been dubbed the Class of ’24. And in an interview with The Times, dad Lee said: "I was sky high. I told Bobby how proud of him I was and of what he has achieved. I’m still on a high now. It’s the best day I ever had. It’s your feelings as a dad. How emotional I am, how proud I am. It’s just phenomenal.”

Clark revealed the lengths Liverpool went to sign the youngster as a kid as they pulled out all the stops to convince the England youth international to come to Anfield. He said: “When he went to Liverpool they had a big dossier on him and it was amazing. This wasn’t about immediate success but a detailed plan for Bobby’s development and integration into the senior squad. ‘We aren’t signing you to make the under-18s or win the Youth Cup, we’re signing you because we believe you have a pathway to the first team’."

Clark joined Liverpool from Newcastle, his dad’s boyhood heroes, and trained with Birmingham when his father was manager. He can play across the forward line and in midfield – scoring 13 goals with Liverpool's under-18s in his first season.
