Hythe Town manager Steve Watt says Jake Embery and Johan Caney-Bryan could be the best strike partnership in Isthmian South East

Hythe boss Steve Watt believes he may have the best strike partnership in Isthmian South East.

Johan Caney-Bryan and Jake Embery have forged a real understanding for the Cannons.

They assisted each other in a 4-0 win at Hordean on Saturday, while Ethan Smith and Kai Garande - with his first senior goal - were also on target.

Embery has added to his game since joining Hythe from Sheppey in the summer and has proved the perfect partner for last season’s top scorer, Caney-Bryan.

“I think those two could be the best strike partnership in the league,” said Watt, whose side host National South Tonbridge in the FA Trophy Second Round this Saturday (3pm).

“They complement each other so well.

“I think Jake has changed a lot since he’s been here.

“He’s much more of a team player - I’d imagine this is the hardest he’s ever worked for anyone.

“On Saturday we needed him to go left-midfield and he was like, ‘yeah, no problem’ and he got his goal.

“You know you’re going to get goals when you sign Jake but everything else has surprised me. He’s been a great signing.

“For me, Johan is the ultimate No.9. He gives you everything.

“He’s a good size, he’s physical, he can move, he’s athletic and he gets goals.

“We’re starting to see how good their partnership can be.

“I think they’ve got 12 goals between them - eight for Johan and four for Jake - but it’s how they work together that’s so pleasing.

“They don’t always play as two No.9s - sometimes we have Jake in the No.10 role - but however we set them up, the partnership is working.”

Attacking midfielder Smith is another player excelling at Hythe.

Released by Gillingham a couple of years ago, the youngster is going from strength to strength.
