Hundreds of homes and businesses in Wigan left without electricity after power cut

Hundreds of homes and businesses in Wigan have been hit by a power cut this afternoon.

According to Electricity North West, more than 530 properties have been left without electricity in the Standish area.

In the Leigh area, 44 properties are affected.

The power cut is expected to last for several hours - until at least 4pm.

Engineers are on their way to the scene to fix the issue.

A tweet posted by Electricity North West at 1.30pm this afternoon said: "We are aware of a #powercut in #STANDISH (WN6) affecting 532 customers.

"Our engineer is on their way to investigate.

"To receive updates on this please DM your full address, postcode & contact number.

"If you or anybody in your household require assistance please call us on 105."
