Hull KR Verdict: Rovers produce another dismal display on the road

Hull KR continued their poor run of form with a 32-0 defeat at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, with Castleford obliterating Rovers in the opening half.

Tony Smith made four changes to the side that was dumped out of the Challenge Cup last week, with Will Maher, Brad Takairangi, Luis Johnson, and Lachlan Coote all returning to matchday 17.

The opening score came on 5 minutes, former Robin George Griffin bundled over from close range after some sloppy work down the middle from Rovers. The hosts were then down to 12 men as Liam Watts was sent to the sin-bin for a high shot on Lachlan Coote.

Rovers looked like they were over after some neat hands from Takairangi saw Coote held up over the line before Dean Hadley was forced off the field after a crusher tackle that was put on report by Chris Kendall.

The first half was an error fest from both sides, with Rovers and Castleford guilty of making unnecessary mistakes. Still, the Tigers made Rovers pay when Kenny Edwards and Jake Mamo scored two quickfire tries to make it 18-0 after 30 minutes, again Rovers coming up with some questionable efforts in defence.

Castleford blew Rovers away in the first 40 and added insult to injury when Jason Qareqare put on the afterburners to race past Lachlan Coote for the Tigers' fourth try of the game.

Ben Crooks intercepted a Paul McShane pass and looked to be away late in the half, but referee Kendall adjudged the Rovers man to be offside, and O'Brien slotted over the two penalty points giving the home side a 24 point advantage at the break.

The momentum in the second half proved no different, as early in half, Jake Mamo intercepted a stray Milnes pass to run 80 metres which saw Takairangi leave the field with a suspected torn hamstring.
