Hull FC talking points: Wonderful Connor Wynne, food for thought and the upcoming acid test

Hull FC ran riot against Sheffield Eagles as they scored 11 tries to win 58-12 at Post Office Road and secure their place in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

Here’s a look at some of the talking points.

Sheffield Eagles deserved respect for what they have done so far this season and they got it from the first minute to the last. Brett Hodgson sent out a strong message by selecting his strongest available side and his players responded with a performance the head coach could be proud of at Post Office Road.

It wasn’t always pretty and at times FC were challenged, but the Black and Whites kept going to get over the line 11 times in the contest and seal their place in the quarter-finals. Jake Connor got the scoreboard ticking over early by getting over the whitewash in the first minute and that set the tone for the game as Hull gave their travelling support something to shout about from the terraced end of the ground.

Of course, FC were always heavy favourites for the game, but they could easily have taken their foot off the gas and put their cue in the rack at half-time, 26-0 up. They kept going, though, and produced some truly magical moments to score six second half tries.

Hull fancy their chances of reaching the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this year and they’ve certainly started their cup campaign in the right way.

A number of players impressed against the Eagles on Saturday afternoon. The likes of Jake Connor, Carlos Tuimavave, Jordan Johnstone, Chris Satae and Jordan Lane all caught the eye, but it was hat-trick hero Connor Wynne who stood out above the rest.

The youngster has been in and out of the side this season, but he was given the opportunity to start on the wing and it’s fair to say he took it with both hands.
