Hull FC talking points: MKM delights, halfback conundrum and title talk

Hull FC are riding the crest of a wave ahead of Saturday’s visit of bottom club Toulouse Olympique. Brett Hodgson’s men are chasing a fifth successive Super League home victory as they bid to strengthen their play-off credentials.

It is a far cry from Hodgson’s bitterly disappointing debut campaign, when the Black and Whites slumped to a dismal eight-placed finish in 2021. Here, Hull Live assesses a number of issues surrounding the club as they prepare to take on Sylvain Houles’ French outfit.

Hull FC are flying right now, at least on home soil, and another win over Toulouse would continue their fine run at the MKM Stadium. They have overcome Catalans Dragons and Warrington Wolves in tight games in their past two outings.

Those victories followed previous wins at home against Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils. There have been a few shaky away performances and results but the fact that Hodgson’s men have a 100% home record so far this term suggests they can lay a foundation for a serious play-off challenge.

Nobody is saying the Black and Whites are ready to win at Old Trafford – not yet anyway – but are building nicely thanks to their home comforts. Not since 2018 have racked up five straight home wins in Super League and it would take a brave person to bet against Hodgson’s men this weekend.

Hull will be without a recognised senior half-back for the match against Toulouse Olympique with Luke Gale and Josh Reynolds both missing through suspension. Gale is set to miss his seventh game of the season as he completes his two-match ban for a trip in the Easter Monday win over Warrington Wolves.
