Hull City's transfer move for Scott Twine underlines Acun Ilıcalı's Premier League ambition

It's no wonder Hull City fans are purring at the prospect of having a forward line to match anything in the Championship next season, after it was revealed the club are working hard to complete a deal to sign MK Dons ace Scott Twine and add him to an attacking unit which already possesses Keane Lewis-Potter and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh.

Twine lit up League One last season in his first campaign at Stadium:MK, hitting the net 20 times and fashioning another 13 assists for the Dons, who ended up finishing third in the league before succumbing to a play-off semi-final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers. His four goals in the 5-0 win at Plymouth Argyle on the final day were a fitting way to end a spectacular season for a player who only arrived on a free transfer 12 months earlier.

There is competition for the 22-year-old Swindon-born attacker, but City are understood to be leading that race and willing to pay around £4m to bring him to East Yorkshire, so valuable is he to what the Tigers want to do next season, Acun Ilicali is personally working on the deal in a bid to get it done.

Loathed to lose their star man, a failure to win promotion to the Championship means the writing was always likely to be the wall for MK's hopes of keeping Twine, though having signed him on a free and receiving £4m for his services, that represents a decent amount of profit.

Owing to the fact he's under the age of 24, MK were forced to pay Swindon £300,000 a year ago following a tribunal settlement, and Town will be due 20 percent of any future fee, assuming Twine is to move on, but that's still a decent return on their investment, and one Hull City themselves could benefit from further down the line.

What will Twine bring to City? Well, in short, goals
