Hull City 'interested' in move for Barcelona winger Adama Traore's namesake

Hull City are interested in a summer move for Adama Traore, who currently plays as a central midfielder for Hatayspor. That name is already a popular one in English football but the Tigers are not looking to bring the former Wolves and now-Barcelona winger to the club.

It is, instead, the 26-time Mali international who is playing his trade in the Turkish Super Lig for one of the teams competing for a European place. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season therefore City would be able to sign him for free.

Turkish journalist Ertan Suzgu tweeted that he was on Shota Arveladze’s radar on Monday afternoon. He is a player who has experience playing in Europe’s more established leagues but, during spells with Lille and Monaco in Ligue 1, he struggled to impress.

Hull City owner Acun Ilicai makes another key MKM Stadium decision

Since leaving the French top flight for Turkey at the beginning of last season, Traore has been an ever-present. He made 35 league appearances last term for Hatayspor as they narrowly missed out on a place in the newly-formed UEFA Conference League.

They harbour the same ambitions this season and he will be hoping, prior to his possible departure, to inspire his side to a finish in the European places. Whether a potential campaign in one of UEFA’s club competitions would tempt him to stay remains to be seen but he would be a welcome addition to the squad at the MKM Stadium.

With Championship safety looking all-but secure, it will be interesting to see the intentions of Acun Ilicai in his first summer transfer window as City owner. The signing of a player like Traore would signal a strong start to proceedings as he would come with top-division knowhow as well as international experience.
