Hull City 0-1 Swansea City: Liam Cullen strike hands Luke Williams first league win

Luke Williams earned his first league win as Swansea City boss courtesy of a superb away performance against top-six challengers Hull City at the MKM Stadium.

Liam Cullen marked his return to the starting XI by giving the visitors a deserved lead after turning in Josh Tymon's low corner, a goal that proved enough to settle the contest - and hopefully give lift-off to the Williams era.

Swansea were organised, vibrant and resolute on Humberside. Perhaps the only blot on the afternoon was an injury to Kyle Naughton, who limped off midway through the second half.

Nevertheless, any concerns over who will fill in at right-back for Tuesday's clash with Leeds United will be put on the back-burner for now. After threatening progress in their last few outings, Swansea finally produced a tangible result, halting a run of four-straight defeats in all competitions in the process.

It's a result that also opens up a seven-point gap between the Swans and the relegation zone.

The last time Swansea were here, it was to see their faint hopes of a play-off spot finally extinguished by a Hull side that had spent most of their time sweating over their Championship status. The landscape has changed monumentally since that April afternoon.

The job done by Liam Rosenior, who's taken this club from the cusp of the dropzone to fully-fledged play-off contenders, has been nothing short of remarkable and demonstrates what's possible under a progressive and dynamic coach.

Swansea are clearly hoping for a similar trajectory under Williams, and this first league success could well prove a valuable platform on which he can build.
