Huge queues build on M62 amid crash with 'person trapped' in HGV

Huge queues are building on a stretch of the M62 after a crash involving three HGVs.

Two lanes have been shut off on the westbound side of the motorway from junction 11 for Birchwood to junction 10 for the M6 Croft Interchange. The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said the crash involved three HGVs.

'One casualty is trapped' in one of the vehicles with firefighters working to free them. Drivers have been urged to avoid the stretch of the motorway as traffic builds.

North West Motorway Police posted on X: "Lanes 1 and 2 closed on M62 between j11 and j10 due to a Police incident, please take care."

The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "INCIDENT | Firefighters are at the scene of a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the M62 J11-J10. Lanes one and two are currently closed. Please avoid the area if possible."

In a statement, the fire service added: "Fire crews have arrived at a road traffic collision involving three heavy goods vehicles. One casualty is trapped and firefighters will be working to free this person as quickly as possible.

"Lanes one and two are currently closed, delays expected, please avoid the area while we deal with the incident. Updates will be shared when available."
