Huge queues at Manchester’s new Indian street food restaurant as fans delve into footlong naan rolls

Scores of people were seen stretching down Deansgate today for the opening of Manchester’s newest Indian street food eatery.

Rola Wala, a fresh and healthy spin on the traditional Indian takeaway, featuring footlong naan rolls, rice bowls and tikka tacos, opened its doors at 11am today (November 9).

Diners who were seen queueing in the pouring rain were the first to get their hands on the food chains big hit naan rolls - which can be filled with freshly made curries, like butter chicken, pulled lamb or chickpea masala, alongside a wide range of salads, garnishes and sauces.

Located next to the Subway and KFC near Barton Arcade, fans queued for hours to try Rola Wala’s menu, inspired by the streets of Kolkata and Bombay. At weekends, Rola Wala will even be open as late as 3am for those midnight cravings.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Mark Wright, who set the business up initially as a street food stall in London. The first permanent Rola Wala restaurant was opened at Leeds Trinity Way in 2016. The likes of Rita Ora and Jamie Oliver have since championed the chain.

Naan rolls and rice bowls are available in two sizes, with a regular costing £7.95 and a large at £8.95, while naan tacos are available in two (£5.90) or three (£7.45) The food chain also serves a range of sides, including masala fries (£2.45) and poppadum chips (£1.45).

“We make everything fresh here,” Mark Wright said. “Everything is made on the day using fresh ingredients. We have at least 48 different ingredients in each of the dishes.”
