"Huge let-down" - Journalist claims £10.8m-rated Leeds ace "simply hasn't cut the mustard"

Junior Firpo has been a “huge let-down” for Leeds this season, according to Mirror journalist David Anderson.

The Spaniard made the £13m move from Barcelona last summer, but it’s been an underwhelming first campaign in English football for the left-back.

Having made more than 40 appearances for the La Liga giants, big things were expected of Firpo when he made the switch to Elland Road.

But the £10.8m-rated defender simply hasn’t been able to find his top form, not helped by the fact he’s been battling with niggly injuries for the majority of the season.

Firpo has started less than half of Leeds’ 36 Premier League games, playing 90 minutes on just 10 occasions, while in terms of his performances, he’s been Leeds’ 14th-best player, according to WhoScored.

He arrived with a reputation of being an attacking full-back having been directly involved in 16 goals in 62 La Liga appearances, but he’s chipped in with just two assists for the Yorkshire outfit.

As a result of his form, even centre-back Pascal Struijk was preferred to him for the recent defeat against Chelsea, highlighting exactly how disappointing his first season at Leeds has been.

He told GIVEMESPORT “I think Junior Firpo has been a huge let-down. Leeds knew they needed a specialist left-back, even if Alioski stayed, and they identified Firpo.

“Barcelona wanted to get rid of him and thought, well, if he’s second choice at Barcelona, he must be a decent player, but he simply hasn’t cut the mustard at all.”
