Huge emergency services response at Cheadle Hulme station after person hit by train

A huge emergency services response descended on Cheadle Hulme station on Monday night (February 26) after a person was hit by a train. Fire crews, paramedics and police swarmed Station Road after the incident that caused trains to be stopped and diverted due to the major police incident.

Pictures from the scene show a number of ambulances responding, along with officers from British Transport Police and crews from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).

The person, who was trapped underneath, was later rescued using specialist trauma equipment and rushed to hospital from the scene.

The incident was first reported shortly before 8.30pm, with emergency services remaining in attendance for a number of hours late into Monday night. Train services to Cheadle Hulme and Handforth were diverted due to the ongoing incident, with travellers told to expect severe delays.

National Rail also confirmed on their live updates that a person had been hit, which read: "A person has been hit by a train between Stockport and Crewe / Stoke-on-Trent. Whilst the emergency services carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed. Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised until approximately 23:00."

Northern posted to X, formerly Twitter: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Wilmslow and Stockport some lines are blocked. Services will be cancelled, delayed or diverted via Manchester Airport. Handforth and Cheadle Hulme will not be served."
