"Huge amount of heartache": A teenager who got 'truly involved in organised crime' was given a chance at a fresh start... then 12 days later he was at it again

A teenager who was pursued by police in a stolen Range Rover at speeds of 130mph had only just been released from jail after another high-speed chase.

Sam Toms. 19, was part of an organised crime gang which used hitech computer software to hack to access keyless luxury cars in the and steal them to order.

And he is now back behind bars after trying to flee from a police car in the £90,000 Range Rover Sport which had been taken just minutes earlier whilst its 74-year old owner was at a lunchtime function at a spa hotel.

Officers had to deploy two stinger devices to bring Toms to a halt leaving the vehicle with 18,000 worth of damage .It emerged Toms had been just been released from jail after stealing a different Range Rover and writing it off whilst driving it at speeds of to 150mph with three burst tyres.

The court heard Toms had originally been arrested in March of last year after he and an accomplice stole another £84,000 Range Rover from the Terminal 2 multi-storey car park at Manchester Airport.

Police spotted the stolen car on false plates as Toms drove along the A661 it through Staffordshire and a police helicopter had to be scrambled to follow the vehicle as jumped through red lights and almost crashed into a lorry.

Officers deployed a stinger, puncturing three of the Range Rover’s tyres, but the pursuit carried on and it only came to an end when Toms lost control and dumped the car. It sustained £61,000 of damage and was subsequently written off..
