Huddersfield Town summer departure Naby Sarr linked with Championship return

Former Huddersfield Town centre-back Naby Sarr has been linked with several clubs as he plots his next move following his summer release from the John Smith’s Stadium.

The 28-year-old defender made 66 appearances in all competitions for the Terriers over his two-year stint at the club, signing off as a surprise selection in the starting lineup for their play-off final defeat to Nottingham Forest in May.

Town announced days later that Sarr would be released upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June, and he is now being connected with a swift return to Championship action as well as reportedly being over interest in Germany.

Football Insider write that Reading and Birmingham City – who unveiled John Eustace as their new head coach over the weekend – are weighing up making a move for Sarr, along with newly-promoted German second tier side Kaiserslautern.

Sarr became something of a cult figure with Town fans after joining the club as a free agent in summer 2020 following his release from Charlton Athletic, scoring memorable goals against Blackburn in his first season and against both Luton and Middlesbrough in a pair of crucial six-pointers in April.

The 6’5” behemoth had been a regular starter in his first season at the club but last season served as back-up to Tom Lees, Matty Pearson and Chelsea loanee Levi Colwill. Town moved quickly to secure Town’s replacement after announcing his release, with Cheltenham Town skipper Will Boyle returning as their first (and so far only) summer signing.
