Huddersfield Town confirm pre-season friendly as summer schedule takes shape

Huddersfield Town’s have begun to announce details of their pre-season schedule by confirming their summer schedule will include a game against Bolton Wanderers.

It is the team’s first fixture to be announced since losing 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in the play-off final at Wembley last month. No subsequent fixtures have been revealed so far.

The game will be played on Saturday, July 23 at the University of Bolton Stadium, as the club’s home ground has been called since 2018. Kick-off will be at 3pm.

It means a short trip for any Huddersfield Town fans inclined to make the journey. The round trip is about 80 miles for those travelling by car.

The last time Huddersfield Town played Bolton Wanderers was in the third round of the FA Cup in 2018 at what was then called the Macron Stadium. Huddersfield Town won 2-1, the winning goals coming from Rajiv van la Parra and Danny Williams.

The last time Bolton Wanderers beat Huddersfield Town was in 2014. That was a Championship fixture, also at the Macron Stadium, and Bolton won 1-0.

Since then Bolton have had a torrid time. Plagued by debt, over the last decade they dropped out of the Premier League and slid all the way down to the fourth tier for a period.

Under new ownership, the burdened club has still struggled, but they have climbed back up to League One. This season they finished ninth and will be pushing for promotion next season.
