Huddersfield Town already shown they can beat Nottingham Forest however play-off final unfolds

There are those who fear change, but Huddersfield Town have made it their closest ally this season. Against a variety of opponents and facing a diaspora of game situations, Carlos Corberan’s side have found different ways to pick up points consistently and secure their chance at promotion at Wembley on Sunday.

That knowledge should fill the players with confidence ahead of what is sure to be a hugely testing game against a very capable Nottingham Forest side who will be looking to impose their own style and approach on the game; and however the action unfold, Town will be able to call upon their experience of having faced these kinds of situations before.

Here are five of the Terriers performances that should give them the most heart going into the Championship play-off final – selected not for the quality of the performances so much as because they represent a smorgasbord of scenarios that they have been able to overcome.

An obvious place to start, of course, is the last league meeting between these two sides – particularly since Town’s defeat in the FA Cup came with Corberan playing a much-rotated side with no Lee Nicholls, no Lewis O’Brien, no Levi Colwill, no Harry Toffolo and no Danny Ward or Jordan Rhodes.

The league game at the City Ground at the end of December came when the Terriers had already started an unbeaten run that would eventually extend to 17 league games, but needed a statement victory against a true top side to re-assert their credentials as genuine promotion contenders.

They got that at Forest. Duane Holmes scored 30 minutes in off Toffolo’s assist, and Town were met with an absolute barrage in response. Town had been forced into playing a back four that was not best suited to dealing with
