How the Manchester United dressing room reacted to Erik ten Hag's criticism

Diogo Dalot insists the Manchester United squad was not "hurt" by manager Erik ten Hag's criticism of their performance in the derby.

City thrashed United 6-3 and Ten Hag blamed a "lack of self-belief" from the players, who were accused of lacking discipline and failing to follow instructions.

"It did not hurt," Dalot said. "I think this should be the standard of this club. If you play for Man United you have to believe every single game. You have to have confidence as well but you have to take the responsibility that you’re playing for the biggest club in the world.

"This has to be normal for us but in a good way - not be overwhelmed with that but take it as a responsibility and this has to be the standard for every player not just the fans because they always demand everything but for us as well we have to demand.

"After a defeat like that it is always tough, but it is time to take responsibility and especially improve in some aspects which we should for the rest of the season. We had a lot of challenges today and we needed a response. The three points is what we came for and we are happy with that."

United recovered from their derby humbling to beat Omonia Nicosia in their third Europa League group stage game but trailed 1-0 at half-time in Cyprus.

Omonia had only won one of their previous 23 European ties and struck again late on to ensure a nervy finale that United eventually saw out 3-2.

"There were some really good bits," Dalot opined. "Overall, we could have controlled the game much more than we did, especially in the last minutes and also in the minutes after we conceded, but we did a really good 35 minutes in the first half,
