How Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has taken star man Barry Bannan's game to new heights

Sheffield Wednesday climbed back into the League One play-offs after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.

First half goals from George Byers and Callum Paterson ensured the Owls recorded back-to-back wins.

It was a confident, professional display from Wednesday as they condemned the Addicks to a fifth successive defeat.

Manager Darren Moore said: "I was pleased with the clean sheet and our concentration levels were good. Charlton didn't create much, which is testament to the team's display. It was a solid display.

"The defenders and Bailey will take the plaudits for the clean sheet but it was a team performance."

The visitors struggled as an attacking force throughout and only registered one shot on target, with Mason Burstow firing tamely at Bailey Peacock-Farrell after Marvin Johnson gifted him possession.

Wednesday never looked back from the moment Byers gave them a fifth minute lead. The former Swansea City man grabbed his third goal in six outings, glancing in Barry Bannan's inviting free kick.

Frustrated Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson said: "It was a nightmare start to the game and we never really recovered."

At no point did the Owls get out of second gear. Charlton offered little resistance and were one of the worst teams to visit Hillsborough this season.

It was a complete mismatch.

"I was really impressed with the concentration levels of the players," said Moore. "When you score so early it’s easy to think the game will be easy but there is no such thing as an easy game.

"You have to continue your work rate and concentration and we did that."
