How Sheffield United's Max Lowe has responded to transfer talk and Nottingham Forest interest

Paul Heckingbottom has praised Max Lowe's attitude following his return to Sheffield United amid an uncertain period. The 25-year-old has been subject of an offer from Olympiacos and interest from Nottingham Forest that has not gone any further.

He spent last season on loan at the City Ground and helped Steve Cooper's side to promotion to the Premier League. United rejected an offer from Forest in January and Heckingbottom described the bid lodged by the Greek giants last week as 'poor'.

He teamed back up with United for their pre-season training camp in Portugal and he impressed the coaching staff with his strength and fitness levels in Lisbon. He's settled straight back in and has featured in the friendly fixtures against Casa Pia and Lincoln City, performing well in both games.

Heckingbottom has expressed a desire to keep him at Bramall Lane as he looks to drive competition for places and have as good a squad as possible for another assault on the Championship promotion places.

The Blades boss acknowledges it's not easy when you've been away for a season and come back to talk of interest and rejected bids but says he cannot fault how the player has been since his return to Sheffield United.

"Lowey has been great," he told Yorkshire Live. "I have had conversations with him. It can get messy but the only person who generally suffers is the player.

"Football is simple. If you are playing well enough someone will come and pay money for you. Someone can't tell you you are the best player in the world and then offer peanuts for you, it doesn't add up.

"Lowey knows I will be honest with him and we will talk all the time. Any problems he can come and speak to me, we're really clear on that.
