How much Arsenal players have been forced to pay in fines amid shocking red card record revealed

Arsenal’s poor disciplinary record under current boss Mikel Arteta is certainly well-known.

Since the Spaniard took the reins from compatriot Unai Emery back in December 2019, the Gunners have been awarded a lengthy list of 15 red cards in all competitions - far more than any other Premier League side.

The dismissals have certainly been damaging to the Gunners, having had to do without a number of key players in key matches due to the resultant suspensions picked up in the process.

That theme continued over recent weeks with Gabriel Martinelli picking up two silly bookings - and indeed his marching orders - in the slender victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Whilst Arsenal and Arteta have had to deal with the consequences of that inexcusable discipline, the players responsible have also had to take punishment too in the form of FA fines.

As detailed in the FA Laws of the Game, players are liable to pay fines for both yellow and red cards.

Whilst they are not too significantly damaging to a Premier League footballer’s pay packet, the sheer volume of red cards throughout Arteta’s reign has actually seen the current crop of Arsenal stars fork out hundreds in fines.

As per the FA rules, red cards for violent conduct and serious foul play incur three-match automatic suspensions and a £55 fine.

Elsewhere, a dismissal for two bookable offences or denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity carry a lower £35 fine. Both punishments are inclusive of a £15 administrative fee.

So, taking into account the 15 red cards that Arsenal have been awarded during Arteta’s reign, it means that the squad have been forced to pay a minimum of £625 for their actions.
