How Man City should line up vs Real Madrid in Champions League semi-final second leg

Manchester City can reach their second Champions League final but must overcome European giants Real Madrid at the Etihad on Wednesday.

City and Real shared a high-quality 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last week to leave everything to play for this week, while City will be hopeful that home advantage will help them over the line.

Pep Guardiola will have an almost-fit squad to pick from, with Nathan Ake the only absentee after missing the last three games with injury. Ake didn't train again on Tuesday, and is unlikely to be involved for the second leg - leaving Manu Akanji favourite to play at left-back again.

Guardiola had suggested City may need to play more on the front foot than they did at the Bernabeu, but that may well be style as much as personnel.

The big two questions for the manager must be does he play Phil Foden and does he play Riyad Mahrez? Mahrez offers the big-game personality and that take-on ability down the right while nobody is as explosive as Foden is when he is on song.

I think Foden is the more tempting option but I'd still revert back to the XI that did so well in the first leg at the Bernabeu and leave those two - and Julian Alvarez - as options off the bench. Bernardo Silva is probably most at risk but he offers so much to the side it is so difficult to leave him out.
