How is Josh Magennis getting on since leaving Hull City in January?

Despite struggling near the bottom of the table, Hull decided to part ways with one of their most proven strikers in the winter transfer window, allowing Josh Magennis to join Wigan.

Having scored frequently in League One, the Latics managed to bag themselves a player who is more than capable of finding the back of the net in the third tier. The Tigers meanwhile lost one of their most prominent attackers.

Whilst Hull have since replaced him somewhat by bringing in Marcus Forss, it was still a strange decision from the club to allow him to leave.

Wigan have thrown him straight into the mix in League One now – but how has he got on since the move?

So far, the move perhaps isn’t working out as well as the Latics would have liked. With the need for a striking replacement high up on the priority list due to the absence of Charlie Wyke, they wanted a forward who could score goals at the top end of the third tier.

Magennis seemed to be that on paper based on his previous record – but so far he has failed to find the net in three games. He played the full 90 minutes against Cheltenham but was held to a blank as his side drew and then managed only 19 minutes against Oxford.

After another game with no goals against Stoke, he then featured in their game against Sheffield Wednesday but failed to really have much impact. In fact, he had the least touches of any outfield player on the pitch to play the full 90 minutes and he also lost the most duels. It meant that the 31-year-old cut an isolated figure in attack and couldn’t really do anything with the ball when he got it.

It’s a new style of football for the striker and he is certainly familiar with League One and knows how to score but perhaps he is still adjusting to a new team and
