Has Korey Smith kicked on since leaving Bristol City for Swansea?

After spending six years at Bristol City, Korey Smith opted to move on to pastures new in 2020 as he sealed a switch to fellow Championship side Swansea City.

During his time at Ashton Gate, the midfielder made 196 appearances for the Robins in all competitions as he managed to establish himself as a key player for the club.

It was always going to be intriguing to see whether Smith would be able to take his career to new heights at Swansea.

Here, we have decided to take a look at whether the 31-year-old has kicked on following this particular call…

In his final season with the Robins, Smith managed to average a WhoScored match rating of 6.54 in the Championship.

The midfielder has failed to replicate this particular total in either of the two campaigns that he has represented Swansea in as he recorded a rating of 6.43 in the 2020/21 campaign and is currently averaging an underwhelming rating of 6.25 in the second-tier during the current term.

Although Smith was used regularly by former Jacks boss Steve Cooper, his lack of consistency resulted in him being deployed as a substitute on 12 occasions last season.

Cooper left Swansea after the club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

Smith would have been hoping to take his game to new heights under the guidance of Russell Martin following the 36-year-old’s arrival at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Yet due to the presence of Flynn Downes and Matt Grimes, Smith has been utilised as a substitute in nine of the 25 league games that he has featured in this season.

The midfielder will be keen to build upon his latest cameo display for the Jacks as he provided an assist for Cyrus Christie’s goal in last night’s 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
