Households affected by Storm Henk floods could receive thousands in Government support

Households affected by flooding can now apply for thousands of pounds in compensation from the government. This follows from days of heavy rain which saw a major incident declared across parts of the country.

Throughout last week, Storm Henk brought strong winds and rain which resulted in the ground becoming more saturated and therefore more prone to floods. The Government has announced this afternoon, January 6, that those in eligible areas in England that have experienced 'exceptional localised flooding' will be able to apply for financial support.

The support will be made available through a scheme called the Flood Recovery Framework, which is used in exceptional circumstances to support councils and communities following severe flooding. The measures were announced by the Communities Secretary Michael Gove and Environment Secretary Steve Barclay.

Almost 50,000 properties have already been protected from the worst impact of Storm Henk due to flood defences, with the assistance of Environment Agency teams and first responders, who have helped managed the risk of flooding.
