Power restored to 48000 homes in north west as region braces for named Storm Jocelyn
Engineers are continuing the fight to restore power to the homes of thousands of people across the north west following severe power cuts caused by Storm Isha, as another named storm begins to build and barrel its way to the UK. With 48000 homes in the north west able to use their electricity again, forecasters are now keeping an eye on Storm Jocelyn, which is due to hit the region tomorrow (January 23).
After Storm Isha lashed the area with 80mph winds, 166 fallen power lines and damaged substations meant almost 50,000 homes were without power today (January 22). Tonight, 4000 homes in the north west remain in the dark without electricity, as high wind and rain continues to hamper efforts to restore power.
With Storm Jocelyn likely to lash the region with wind and rain tomorrow, it is not clear when affected homes can expect their power to return. Many of these properties that remain without power have had food vans put on by Electricity North West until their lights come back on.

Mark Mercer, Electricity North West’s network systems manager, said: “We’re focused on completing the work to get everyone back on as soon as possible. I’d like to thank our teams for their efforts so far and thank everyone affected for their patience and understanding while we make these repairs."
He continued: “The winds are still making it unsafe to make repairs in some local areas but we’re fully resourced and are bringing in more engineers from around the country.”
