Horror as 'cyclist' is killed after being 'struck by lorry' in Salford

A 'cyclist' was killed after reportedly being 'struck by a lorry' on a main road in Salford on Thursday (May 16). Police, paramedics and fire crews descended on Cromwell Road after the major collision, at the junction with Langley Road South at around 4pm.

The Manchester Evening News understands that the person, thought to have been riding a bike at the time, was hit by the lorry at the junction of the busy main road - and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Further details about the incident and the gender of the person involved in the horror crash have not yet been confirmed by police. The investigation is currently being led by GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU).

Cromwell Road remained taped off in both directions into the evening between Lissadel Street and Littleton Road, with Langley Road South also cordoned off.

Two HGVs were pictured within the cordon, along with a bike, which were being inspected by officers. Fire crews also erected dignity screens at the site of the fatal collision.

Evidence markers were seen being placed in the road by collision investigators as pictures were taken of the scene as locals watched on from beside the cordon in horror.

It is not yet known whether anybody was arrested in relation to the crash. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for more details.
