Horror as bus passenger injured after crooked branch skewers through top deck window

A passenger was left injured after a branch ploughed through the top deck window of a bus in Prestwich on Thursday (July 11).

Police, paramedics and fire crews descended on Bury Old Road after one of the Bee Network buses became involved in the major collision with a tree.

Dramatic pictures from the scene showed how a branch had smashed through the top window of the double decker bus, shattering the glass and ending up half way through the top deck.

One person was seen to by paramedics at the scene. Further details about their condition have not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.

After the collision, emergency crews cordoned off the area. A number of police vehicles, fire engines and ambulances were pictured at the scene as they responded. Fire crews also worked to clear the road of branches and debris.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Shortly before 8pm this evening (Thursday 11 July), one fire engine from Broughton Community Fire Station was called to attend a crash involving a double-decker bus and a tree on Bury New Road, Salford.

“Crews arrived quickly and worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe and clear the roadway. One casualty was transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a statement.
