A four-storey property featured on BBC's Homes Under the Hammer had been left in such a state it was unmortgageable.
The large townhouse had a guide price of £199,000 which seemed incredibly tempting to presenter Martin Roberts. However, he expressed caution around the layout of the property which included a basement level and accommodation in the loft.
One of the key things that impressed him was the size and height of the ceiling in some of the rooms, as well as the conditions of the ground floor which had already seen some renovation work. However, the shower room in the Newport property in Wales was starkly outdated, Wales Online reports.

Martin said: "It's a grand building with some grand opportunities presenting themselves." However, things began taking a turn for the worse when he climbed up the staircase to the next floor and saw the state of the electrics.
He said: "The higher up the house you get, the less renovated it appears, it's charming in its own way but very, very dated, and you don't have to be a rocket scientist or even an electrician to work out that this (the electrics) with its Bakelite switches and its old fashioned fuses is a very old electrical system.
