Home with a cosy sofa is a deal-breaker for 12-year-old Manchester Dogs Trust resident Fido

A 12-year-old dog is looking for a home in Manchester after his family brought him into the Dogs Trust kennels last year. Fido, an elderly crossbreed, was taken to the centre when his owners had a ‘change of circumstances’ in September 2021.

The name Fido derives from Latin, meaning “to trust or confide in”. In short, Fido means faithful - and this little frost faced pooch is looking for a family to offer his loyalty to. He’s known at Manchester’s Dogs Trust site for his big smile and waggy tail, but he longs to find a sofa of his own to snooze on with the company of his humans.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: “Fido is an absolutely fantastic boy. He may be slightly older, but he's very spritely and always enjoys playing with tennis balls! He is a creature of habit, who loves his home comforts, especially a sofa to nap on.

“He much prefers human company over alone time, so would benefit from a home with multiple family members, so he doesn’t have to spend time by himself.”

Fido - who is currently staying in a foster home - is able to live with children of any age, and adores nothing more than the company of others. He’s not ‘overly bothered’ by long walks and is said to be quite happy pottering around a well manicured garden or a quick walk around the block.

He has been spending some time in a home with one of the Dogs Trust trainers from the centre and he has been an ‘absolute delight’. Fido will be an ideal dog for a home who doesn't go on many busy adventures and he is fully house trained, not destructive and will take ‘no time at all to settle’.

Being allowed on the furniture is a deal-breaker for Fido. Dogs
