Steve McClaren has already told Manchester United his Marcus Rashford masterplan

Returning coach Steve McClaren has already told Manchester United how he plans to revive Marcus Rashford next season. Rashford endured a difficult campaign at Old Trafford and beyond after returning from Euro 2020 heartbreak and shoulder surgery in the summer.

After recovering from his operation, Rashford actually started brightly with three goals in four early-season outings. However, only two more strikes followed in 28 further appearances.

His attitude on-field and body language came into question - although he was not alone there - while Ralf Rangnick often preferred Anthony Elanga towards the end of the campaign despite injuries and other absences when it came to selecting options in attacking quarters.

Rashford has considered his future at Old Trafford amid reported interest from Barcelona and others. However, with McClaren returning to the club as one assistant to Erik ten Hag - with Mitchell van der Gaag being the other - he has a clear plan for how to get the United forward back up to his very best form.

Speaking about Rashford to Sky Sports in January, McClaren said: "Body language is so important and that was the criticism of United players in the last few weeks, but [Marcus] Rashford has probably had this [concern] throughout his career in terms of questioning his attitude.

"He gets deterred too easily and doesn't fight through bad moments. He doesn't stay in the game. If he's not having a good first half, he'll never have a good second half. Somebody needs to give him the tools to come out of the bad times, because he doesn't know how to and stays in it."
