Hollands & Blair manager Scott Porter hoping history will repeat itself when he faces Sheppey United in the Kent Senior Trophy final

Scott Porter is drawing on previous experience as he looks to lead Hollands & Blair to Kent Senior Trophy glory.

Porter lifted the trophy with former club Whitstable in 2018, beating Sheppey 2-1 at the Gallagher Stadium.

It’s a case of same opponents, same venue for the Blair boss when his side meet the Ites this Sunday (2pm).

Blair start underdogs against a Sheppey side who last week clinched promotion to Isthmian South East but Porter knows how to win big games.

“It’s something I had my eye on when I got the job, finish in the top 10 and get to a cup final because the potential was there to do it,” said Porter.

“Sheppey are going to be favourites, they’ve just got promoted, and they want to win the league, but we’ve got to do what we do and believe we can win the game.

“I believe we can win every game. It’s a one-off game and we’ve got to be at the races.

“We need everyone to be eight, nine or 10 out of 10 and collectively we need to be that as a side.

“We’ll prepare properly, we’re doing everything the right way for a cup final, right the way down to a pre-match meal to make it special.

“I did that with Whitstable and it worked and we’ll look to keep the same preparation.

“We want to do everything properly and make it as special and important and as professional as it can be.”

Four members of the winning Whitstable team are with Porter at Blair, including Tom Bryant, the man whose extra-time goal sank Sheppey.

He misses out through injury this weekend but Chris Saunders, Ricky Freeman and John Walker could feature.

“Experience of winning cup finals is always going to help you and that’s why we’ll try and do everything we’ve done in the past,” said Porter.
