Bournemouth manager Scott Parker reveals reason behind Fulham departure

Scott Parker has outlined the reason behind swapping Fulham for Bournemouth as his side take on the already promoted Cottagers on Saturday. 

Parker became head coach in February 2019 and guided Fulham to promotion out of the Championship via the playoffs in the 20/21 season before seeing his side relegated from the Premier League last season.

Just over a month later, Parker left London for the South Coast after Jonathan Woodgate failed to guide the Cherries back into the top flight.

Since then, Parker has now seen his former club secure another return to the Premier League, with Fulham having confirmed their promotion from the Championship with Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Preston.

When asked about leaving Fulham, Parker told the Bournemouth Echo: “It was tough, but it was the right thing to do for both sides. It was the right thing for me. The race had run there really.

“I came here with the plan and with an understanding of what the club was about and how I wanted to do things and yeah, I’m delighted with that.”

Parker is now on the verge of his second promotion as a manager with his Bournemouth side currently sat second and needing just nine points from their final five games to guarantee promotion, but Parker isn’t getting ahead of himself, as he added: “I take no notice of the games in hand.

“We’ve just got to worry about the game in front and the game in front is Fulham.”

The Verdict

The relationship between Parker and Fulham did begin to sour. Supporters were frustrated with his football and the results weren’t coming either, so he was certainly right in suggesting the race with Fulham had been run.
