Scott Jamieson hoping to finally finish a lead at ISPS Handa

Scott Jamieson is looking to convert another promising start into a first win in almost a decade as he opened up a two-shot lead heading into the weekend at the ISPS Handa Championship in Spain.

The Scot has enjoyed a productive season in 2022 and a 63 at Infinitum's Lakes Course meant he held the lead at the end of a round for the fifth time this year.

But his best finish so far has been a tie for ninth and the 38-year-old was hoping to maintain his momentum as he searched for a second victory on the DP World Tour and first since December 2012.

"Obviously this year I seem to be coming out of the gates very well," he said. "I’ve had some good starts so far. It’s easy to play the golf course in the first two rounds because you are not necessarily playing against other people at that point.

"It gets tougher as the tournament goes on, so hopefully I can do a good job of just continuing to play the golf course. It’s certainly a different mindset but I’d rather have shot a couple of shots less so far than anyone else.

"This year has been good to me so far and I’m just trying to continue the same swing thoughts and ingrain a couple more things."

A chip-in on the 15th and a long eagle putt from the fringe on the par-five 18th were the highlights as he moved to 11 under, two shots clear of Finn Tapio Pulkkanen, who carded a 67, with home favourite Adrian Otaegui at eight under.

Niall Kearney was the only Irishman to make the cut, squeaking in on one under thanks to birdie on 18 that left him on 71 for the day. It was an impressive finish from the Dubliner after he had started the day with a double bogey.

Cormac Sharvin (70) and Jonathan Caldwell (71) both finished on two over.
