‘Holding his right leg’ - Journalist spots big injury scare for Newcastle

Newcastle United fans may have some concerns about the fitness of their midfielder, Joelinton, following their game on Wednesday night.

Journalist for The Athletic, Chris Waugh, was reporting from St. James’ Park and tweeted about the Brazilian going down with a suspected injury to his right leg.

Joelinton was making his 30th appearance of the league campaign on Wednesday night and has become a mainstay in the XI under Eddie Howe.

Having switched the 25-year-old into a midfielder, Howe has seen the best of Joelinton with the £39.60m signing transformed into a valuable part of the Magpies’ set-up.

However, the Brazilian went down numerous times in the game against Crystal Palace as he was seen by Waugh holding his right leg:

“Joelinton is down injured again, this time holding his right leg, & eventually play is stopped. #NUFC fans weren’t happy with #CPFC continuing to play,” Waugh tweeted.

TIF Thoughts on Waugh’s comments…

This will certainly come as a concern to the Newcastle fans given how much of a role Joelinton has taken up under Howe with 19 starts in the league under the 44-year-old.

Fortunately for the Toon, the win against the Eagles has all but sealed their spot in the Premier League for next season but there will be a concern over Joelinton’s fitness.

The midfielder did continue after going down, however, having gone down multiple times, it will be interesting to see if Joelinton has done himself any lasting damage.
