Hit Liverpool taco spot reveals Manchester opening date

Madre, the Liverpool-born taco restaurant heading to Manchester, has finally revealed its opening date. More than a year since it first announced it was heading down the M62, it will open for business on June 17.

The ‘taqueria and mezcaleria’ - it will also sell mezcal - is inspired by the restaurants and food culture of Mexico City, and is from the people behind hit Liverpool spots Belzan and Breddos Tacos in London.

The menu will be heaving with tacos from classic pork carnitas and beef birria, to baja fish and tempura avocado. There will also be a host of dishes coming from its wood-fired oven, including an aged wing rib of beef to share, butterflied sea bass with salsa verde, clams cooked in beer and lamb cutlets.

For seafood fans, they will be shucking fresh oysters and serving up ceviche, while on snacks will include fried potatoes with garlic cream, salt cod ‘flautas’, and the restaurant’s own signature wings.

Drinks-wise, there will be the usual margaritas and mezcalitas, along with a host of exotic Mexican-inspired cocktails, using ingredients like fermented tomatillos, a pumpkin seed horchata, guajillo chilli tequila, and avocado leaf.

Located in the new Kampus development by the Village, it joins the likes of the Pollen bakery, Great Northern Pie Co and Nell’s. Madre has already had a concession in Escape To Freight Island.

Co-founder Nud Dudhia said: “For us Madre Manchester’s inception and vibe come from a long love of Mexico City’s people, food and culture. Our hope is to bring to Manchester a taste of the generosity and spirit we have experienced on our adventures and to welcome guests back time and time again.”
