Historic Liverpool contract closer than ever after Mo Salah stance softens

Liverpool are closing in on a historic contract agreement with Mo Salah that will tie the striker to Anfield until 2026, claims a report.

Talks between the parties had ended with no breakthrough in sight. But now the club are “confident” a new deal will be reached after a “compromise” was forthcoming from Salah’s entourage.

Football Insider reports that new contract talks will resume imminently with Salah ready to accept reduced terms.

The Egypt star, who has blasted 30 goals this season, said he was not asking for “crazy stuff” at the start of the year.

His current incentivised deal sits at around £200,000 a week, but he is understood to be chasing a figure double that.

The 29-year-old will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer and recently claimed the new deal was “not about the money”.

In an interview with FourFourTwo (via Sky Sports), he said: “I don’t know, I have one year left. I think the fans know what I want, but in the contract it’s not everything about the money at all.

“So I don’t know, I can’t tell you exactly. I have one year left and the fans know what I want.”

Salah will become the club’s best-ever paid player if he pens the new deal.

The report claims Salah “has compromised on his initial £500,000-a-week wage demands” in order to stay at Anfield.

The new deal though will still be monumental. Reds officials are preparing a four-year deal, running until the summer of 2026.

As per the report, the deal could be worth more than £80m in total.

It’s unclear whether Liverpool have revisited their position in regards to the length of the deal. Salah turns 30 next month and they have been unwilling to offer long-term deals to players hitting that age in the past.
