High school team pulls off insane trick play to pull off last gasp win

A high school football team in Ohio pulled out one of the all-time great trick plays as they defeated their opponents in the dying seconds of a game this past weekend.

There are a number of ways that you can win a game in the last few seconds. You can kick a field goal, you can make a dramatic play at the goalline, or you can throw the ball up for a ‘Hail Mary’ kind of play if you are getting really desperate.

And whilst none of them are exactly stress-free, there are some that you would much rather go through than others, mainly down to how intricately you have to plan each play and which ones are the easier to execute in the moment. No coach really wants to have to go through it, but there are times when it becomes a necessity.

That was exactly the moment that faced Westerville Central High School in Ohio this past week as they took on Westerville North on Friday night.

It was the first game of the season for both schools, which kind of adds to the intrigue of the play as it means that they haven’t had all that long to practice it, and Westerville Central were trailing by a score of 20-17 with 5.1 seconds to go.

The ball was on their own 28 yard-line, so they had 72 yards to go, and with the limited time that they had, there was little to no chance of them being able to just get a chunk play before trying for a field goal, it really was all or nothing for them.

Luckily they didn’t need a chunk, they just needed a completion.

Wide receiver Jacob Harris caught the ball, then flipped it to fellow receiver Kobi Davis who was running in the opposite direction, catching the defense flat-footed before he raced away into the endzone to win the game:
