Hibs u-turn as 'dynamic' defender returns to Airdrie on loan deal

Airdrie have announced the return of 'dynamic' defender Kanayo Megwa on a loan deal from Hibs until the end of this season.

The 19-year-old joined Airdrie on a season-long loan in September and made 14 appearances, before being recalled by Hibs and taken with them on a mid-season break to Dubai, and it looked like he would be staying at Easter Road.

However, Airdrie have secured the Nigerian's services until the end of this term.

A statement by the Championship club read: "Dynamic full-back Kanayo Megwa became a firm favourite with the Airdrie faithful in the first half of the campaign, picking up two fan-voted Player of the Month awards as well as numerous Man of the Match displays in the Diamonds defence.

"Now, with the loan transfer window nearing its end, Hibernian have agreed to return Kanayo to the Excelsior to continue his development, and we're pleased to welcome him to add to his 14 appearances in a Diamond shirt."

Airdrie thanked Hibs director of football Brian McDermott for the part he played in allowing Megwa to return to the Championship side.

Hibs said in a social media post: "We can confirm that Kanayo Megwa has rejoined Airdrieonians FC on loan for the rest of the season.

"All the best, Kanayo!"
