Hibs rage over Rangers fans’ behaviour earns furious Hotline backlash as Leith chiefs get glass houses reminder

Hibs are ready to reflect the views of fans outraged by the behaviour of the travelling Rangers support on Sunday by slashing ticket allocations for future visits to Easter Road.

But the Ibrox faithful argue the Leith legions could also do with having a long, hard look at themselves in the mirror. Stevie Jackson, Barrhead, said: “Honestly you couldn't make it up! Here we have Hibs supporter groups moaning about Rangers fans singing so-called naughty songs and demanding bans. Have they looked at themselves lately? Lawrence Shankland had everything but the kitchen sink thrown at him in the recent Edinburgh derby, while on Sunday more items were hurled at Rangers players. What's the old proverb about sticks and stones?”

Willie Mercer, Dumfries, added: “I must have missed the Hibs Supporters Association writing to their club to register their disgust at their own supporters’ thug behaviour during the Hearts game when all sorts of missiles were thrown at Lawrence Shankland when getting ready to take his penalty, objects which included a bottle opener. I don't condone sectarian signings in any way – but I cannot accept the double standard of the stance taken here.”

Jimmy Strangers, Tranent, emailed in: “The Hibs board have a brass neck. They are reducing ticket allocation for away fans, citing abhorrent behaviour and chanting. But Hibs should get their own house in order before attacking away fans. It was the Hibs support who have been guilty of throwing missiles at Hearts and Rangers recently. Pot crying the kettle black.”

Dr Robert Pender said: “Having now announced the reduction of allocation to Rangers does that mean the Hibs supporters will up their attendance to fill a huge void? I doubt it.”
