Hibs make first public VAR declaration since SPFL vote announcement as countdown to ballot begins

Premiership side Hibernian are the first club to publicly declare their voting intentions since the SPFL announced a ballot across all four divisions on the introduction of VAR.

The SFA have begun training and trial matches for the technology, with the intention of introducing the replay technology by the time the World Cup in Qatar has concluded.

Meanwhile a vote will take place on its use in the top flight with all 42 clubs to be asked.

75 per cent of the Premiership, Championship and Leagues One and Two combined must each vote in favour when polled on April 19.

In a club statement the Hibees announced the voting procedure and date before declaring: "Hibernian FC strongly supports the introduction of VAR in the Scottish game."

Their opinion is likely to be echoed across the top flight.

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst has frequently insisted the country must get on board with the technology.

Celtic's Ange Postecoglou has stated its arrival is inevitable while Hearts CEO Andrew McKinlay warned Scottish football risks becoming a "backwater" without the tech.
