Herne Bay United’s Artistic section shine hosting the Falkland & Magpie Invitation Competition & GBSA Roller Cup Round Two

Herne Bay United’s Artistic section shone as they hosted the Falkland & Magpie Invitation Competition & GBSA Roller Cup Round Two at The Bay Sports Arena.

The Falkland & Magpie competition is a national event, run by Herne Bay United, with 19 clubs and more than 200 competitors attending from Berkshire, Cardiff, Essex, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, Stroud, Suffolk and Wiltshire.

They also hosted Round Two of the Roller Cup, a GB Skate Artistic competition league developed by the governing body as an introduction to the National Championship requirements.

Herne Bay United entered 26 skaters in 22 events in total, held over the weekend of July 29-30 and achieved fantastic results.

Lewis Hackman placed second in the Elementary Solo Dance event while Caydn Harwin won the Inter-Bronze Solo Dance event, with Filipe Sousa second.

Ruby O’Brien won in the Bronze Solo Dance category, as Dani Hayon came top of the Inter-Gold and above Solo Dance event.

Second was awarded to her sister, Talie Hayon.

The two couples dance categories - the Falkland Trophy for couples of any age and the Magpie Trophies for couples up to bronze standard - were won by Herne Bay United’s skaters.

The Falkland Trophy was won by Oliver Martin (Maidstone) and Dani Hayon (HBU), and the Magpie Trophies were taken home by Lewis Hackman and Lucia Fairbrass.

It included formation team events which require three skaters to dance together in close formation in unison, where changes in formation are given more marks.

The club entered four teams up to preliminary standard and narrowly missed out on having all three teams on the rostrum.

Rio Baker, Elysse Baker and Prarinna Harris finished top, second went to Maddie Erridge, O’Brien and Harwin as Skye Mays, Filipe
