Herne Bay re-sign midfielder Mike West as Jack Parter, Kieron Campbell and Eddie Allsopp agree to stay with the newly-promoted club

Herne Bay have announced they have re-signed midfielder Mike West permanently as the newly-promoted club’s plans ahead of their first Isthmian Premier season gather momentum.

West, 31, joined Ben Smith’s Bay side on loan last season, helping the club to play-off glory.

He was one of five players to leave National League South Ebbsfleet last month and Bay have won the race for the former Crewe man's signature.

“I'm really happy to join permanently and to help the team in their first season in the Isthmian League Premier Division,” he told the club media team.

Herne Bay manager Smith, meanwhile, has praised the development of Kieron Campbell over the past year with the winger having agreed to stay at the club.

Campbell broke the deadlock as Smith’s side beat Ashford 2-0 in the Isthmian South East play-off final to help the side earn promotion to Step 3 for the first time in their history, Aaron Millbank scoring a second from the penalty spot to seal the win.

Smith was delighted to fight off interest from other clubs to keep Campbell - nicknamed KC - at Winch’s Field for the new season.

“I’m really happy that KC has extended his stay at the club,” Smith said, with Bay also having announced so far this summer left-back Jack Parter and playmaker Eddie Allsopp, 20, are staying put.

“He has taken his game to another level over the past 12 months.

“The level of interest in him from other clubs is no surprise and he has, once again, shown his loyalty [to] everyone at Herne Bay.”

Campbell - named in the Isthmian South East Team of the Year at the weekend - counts Faversham and Whitstable among his former clubs while Parter has plenty of higher-league experience alongside West, which could prove to be invaluable as Herne Bay
