Henderson addresses ‘hurtful and totally false’ online rumours

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson has addressed “hurtful and totally false” rumours on social media.

The England international received abusive messages on various platforms while he was also the subject of distressing speculation.

The 24-year-old was forced to take to Instagram on Monday to “address the rumours” and now just wants to “move on” on from them.

Henderson wrote on Instagram: “Can’t believe I’m having to do this but I’d just like to address the rumours that have come to light in the last couple of days.

“There are some sad people in the world that have attached my name to such inappropriate, hurtful and totally false news stories.

“I have a family who have even affected by this so wanted to put the rumours to bed and move on.”

Henderson came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford after switching from Carlisle United at the age of 14.

He recently shot to prominence in two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, where he put in a number of excellent displays and helped the Blades get promoted to the Premier League.

Despite receiving more playing time with Man Utd last season, Henderson has dropped back down the pecking order at Old Trafford with David de Gea reclaiming his number one spot.

There were rumours that Newcastle United and Watford wanted to take him out of Old Trafford on loan in the January transfer market.

However, Man Utd reportedly rejected any advances for Henderson with Ralf Rangnick keen to keep him at the club as back-up for De Gea.
